Signature Massage

Therapeutic Massage Ossining NY

Ever experience neck soreness after sitting in a bad position too long? Ever bump your knee against a hard object? Is your immediate reaction, like most people, to rub soothingly? Instinctively, you know massage works.

My Signature Massage incorporates techniques learned from my three decades + of experience and is informed by my wealth of knowledge coupled with input from my customers and my intuitive hands.

In order to reduce pain, stress and muscle tension, I use varying degrees of pressure on skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments to relieve the muscle discomfort. My massage style allows me to concentrate my efforts where they will be the most beneficial while providing support to the surrounding areas as well. Click here to book an appointment with Amy or Christine.

Does massage therapy work?

As I’ve chosen it as my vocation, I’ll obviously say yes. If you think I am simply being biased, I’ll link to other reputable sources to vouch for massage therapy’s positive impact on:

Ailment Publisher
Back Pain and Sleep Disorder University of Miami School of Medicine
Sickness, Immune Function Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine
Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness National Institutes of Health
Hormone Production International Journal of Neuroscience
Neonates, Hospitalized Preterm Journal of Nursing Study
General Anxiety Disorder Emory University
Blood Pressure International Journal of Preventive Medicine

From backaches to anxiety to sleep disorders to diminished immune system function, scores of studies have shown massage increases circulation, reduces muscle soreness, and lowers blood pressure. For you bio majors out there, massage reduces cortisol while increasing dopamine and serotonin. Cortisol is the main stress hormone while dopamine and serotonin contribute to positive moods so, production of more good hormones and fewer bad ones is a positive thing.

The researchers in the above, peer-reviewed studies get into the why and how massage therapy works; most people are primarily concerned about “if” or “does” massage therapy work.

If a loved one is suffering, massage therapy can be helpful. I have clients suffering from a variety of medical issues such as fibromyalgia to neurological issues. Massage therapy can be an important part of getting into a regular regimen of holistic wellness.

Massage therapy is more than just massage and it is more than just pampering yourself. It employs science, but empathy and artistry are required to create a more profound impact.

The licensing examination proscribed by the New York State Board for Massage Therapy stipulates coursework in anatomy, physiology, neurology, myology, kinesiology, muscle pathology, skin disorders, general massage theory, Eastern and Western massage techniques, hygiene and first aid, in addition to other topics. The examination covers assessment, evaluation, treatment planning, treatment skill, professional responsibilities and professional ethics.

Subject matter expertise helps practitioners know of different options. But active listening, to customers’ words and body signals, inform the selection of which options are best suited for a specific customer. My Signature Massage is singularly crafted for each client.
